Babar Azam has appointed Pakistan’s new T20 captain but will this affect his batting? In this article, we will talk about this in details. First, let’s see Babar Azam T20 stats.
Babar Azam has played 33 T20I matches and has scored 1290 total runs with an average of 49.61 and a strike rate of 126.59. 97* is his highest T20I score. He has ten 50s in T20 Internationals. His stats are saying that he is an amazing player. Currently, Babar Azam is the NO.1 T20 batsman in ICC Rankings.
We all know captaining a team is not an easy task and for a youngster who has not too much experience in international cricket can add unwelcome pressure on his shoulders. But Babar Azam has cleared all these doubts in his recent press conference.
He said : ” “People judged in three matches [against Sri Lanka] that my performance suffered because I was the vice-captain, In the game of cricket, you have ups and downs, and that was a poor series for us, I don’t see why there would be any added pressure on me just because I’m captain. I’ll continue to play as I always have, and I’m sure the performances will come. I look at current captains like Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli, and how well they manage their own form along with bringing results to the team. I’ll try to emulate them.”
Babar also confirmed he would continue to open the batting in the T20Is. He is a nice player and we hope captaincy does not affect his performance as a batsman but according to me well I am not an expert despite that I should say at this time making him captain can cost him.Earlier we have seen Sarfaraz Ahmed, he was a good batsman but after starting captaincy his performance become worst as a batsman. Anyways always hope for the best.
In the press conference, Babar said about his past that ” I first came to the Gaddafi Stadium 12 years ago as a ball-boy during South Africa’s tour of Pakistan in 2007, and how grateful I was to be sat there leading the side out to Australia as captain.” Indeed this is a great achievement for a 25 years old lad. “A lot has happened in these 12 years, and I have learned many things, I’ve never given up. My late coach – may god bless him – always used to say cricket is a game that makes you cry much more often than it lets you smile.” He added.
For the upcoming tour, He said : “Pakistan wouldn’t play the kind of cricket against Australia they had in Lahore against Sri Lanka.” He promised the team will play aggressive and positive cricket.
Let’s see how this youngster will lead the team. Babar Azam is currently the best batsman in ODI and T20I for Pakistan and Pakistan needs him more than any other player. He is a great, aggressive and solid player. I have a message for those who compare him with Kohli. “He his first Babar Azam not second Virat Kohli”
